
About Dorothy Mueller, Ph.D.,
Dorothy Mueller is a career management and executive coach who opted for Five O'Clock Club Coach Certification after more than 15 years of relevant leadership and counseling experience. She viewed mastery of our job search methodology as a powerful addition to her strong academic and life experience.
After earning her Ph.D. in counseling psychology, Dorothy worked as a psychotherapist and moved into management and leadership roles in various cause-related human services organizations and the healthcare industry. In healthcare, she managed Employee Assistance program services for the NYC-based corporate headquarters of a Fortune 500 company.
She also led a NY-based professional clinical practice subsidiary for a global managed care company. Here she managed 20 high-level direct reports, including physicians and psychologists. In addition, Dorothy's business experience includes a successful stint with an international executive recruiting firm, where she specialized in placing high-level executives within the biopharmaceutical industry.
Leveraging her psychological expertise and management experience, Dorothy began coaching executives for a high-profile executive and leadership development firm in New York City. She provided executive coaching, career transition, and outplacement consulting to senior level, high-visibility executives across a variety of industries, including non-profit, financial services, retail, entertainment, publishing, and universities
In addition to the very pragmatic Five O'Clock Club approach, Dorothy brings a strategically psychological perspective to her coaching practice. She empowers executives and managers to maximize their talents, engage in effective communication and self-management, leverage their strengths, and recognize their limitations and developmental needs-all in the service of fulfilling their personal and professional goals.
With respect to career management consulting, Dorothy's passion is to engage individuals to proactively strategize and manage their careers, guiding them to the next level and/or transitioning them to other industries or careers.
In addition to her coaching practice, Dorothy serves as adjunct faculty at the University of Alabama's Culverhouse College of Business Administration. She teaches a managerial communications course for junior and senior level undergraduate business management majors. She also conducts various executive education seminars through the University of Alabama's Executive MBA program. These are for local corporations on effective communication and executive presence. Dorothy delivers an annual career planning seminar for members of the University of Alabama's Leadership Academy.
Dorothy earned Ph.D. in counseling psychology from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and a BA in psychology from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
